Meskwaki Language App 1.1

The Meskwaki people are part of the Algonquian-speaking tribes within the Eastern Woodland Culture region. They speak a dialect similar to that of the Sauk and Kickapoo tribes. Historically, the Meskwaki have inhabited regions around the St. Lawrence River valley, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa.

Known as the "Renards" or the Fox tribe by the French explorers during their first encounter in 1666, the Meskwaki have always referred to themselves as “Meskwaki”.
